Ingredients

50 minutes
2 servings
  1. 2medium pears, washed and peeled
  2. 1 1/2 cupswater
  3. 1/2 cuplight brown sugar
  4. 1 1/2 tspnutmeg
  5. 2star anises
  6. 1/2 tspvanilla extract

Cooking Instructions

50 minutes
  1. 1

Place pears and all ingredients in a shallow pot.

  2. 2

Cut a round piece of parchment to the size of the pot, fold in half and cut out a small round piece to create an opening. Place over the contents of the pot. I learnt that this keeps the fruit submerged and keeps the sugar from foaming to the top

  3. 3

Bring to boil and reduce the heat to medium-low to simmer until pears are tender and the liquid boils down and thickens to syrup. Depending on the size of pairs, this will take 30 - 45 minutes

  4. 4

Serve warm or refrigerate until chilled. I served mine warm with greek yogurt and some of the syrup
