Beer Battered Crab Sticks with Lemon & Mustard Sauce

Who goes into the supermarket and looks at the fake crab sticks…..and remembers the cockle man selling all types of fresh fish delights ( well fresh-ish) in pubs up and down the country at £1 a go (and that was in the 90s)… probably a majority of us..
As a lad in Birmingham, I remember pubs such as the cavalier, fordrough and the man on the moon etc… Dave the fish man, cheerfully went round selling his wares about 10pm at night to slightly drunken customers….it was part of folklore…..until I found out he was a gravedigger at the local cemetery….Put me right off my mussels and Whelks, I can tell you that for nothing…
Anyway, here’s my 2023 version ( And by the way, you can buy 50 of these fake like pink morsels for less than a quid now…..) it’s enough to have people turning in their grave….

Easy and Quick Imitation Crab and Cabbage with Umami-Rich Japanese Leek Sauce Easy and Quick Imitation Crab and Cabbage with Umami-Rich Japanese Leek Sauce
I was still reluctant to cook a week after the Tohoku Earthquake. I spent those days cooking dishes that were easy and quick. So, I decided to choose and post some of those dishes that I felt would be worth making again (and were easy and tasty).-You can eat imitation crab as it is, but if you heat them up, they become really rich in aroma and umami. The key is to microwave for 1 minute for the best results.-The sauce itself is strong because the whole point is eating it with lots of cabbage,Please eat lots of cabbage, just like how it's served in the picture! For 2 to 3 servings. Recipe by ayureo cookpad.japan -
Honey Mustard Sauce Honey Mustard Sauce
I used to make this sauce using homemade plum syrup, but I tried making it with honey instead, which you can buy regardless of the season. This recipe is a little bit sweet, so adjust the honey according to taste. When you are adding this to macaroni salad, season the salad first, then mix in this sauce. Recipe by Kikka mama cookpad.japan -
Golden Crab Sauce with Tagliatelle Golden Crab Sauce with Tagliatelle
I wanted to combine a creamy crab sauce with my favorite flat pasta, but I've never seen it on a restaurant menu so I made my own. It's so good! This is my favorite pasta dish.Simmer down the tomato sauce in steps 1 and 2 to evaporate much of the liquid in the pan. Even if only 20% of the moisture is left, it should be good. You can make the sauce in advance up to step 2. If you start from step 3 on the following day, it will be lot easier, especially if you are serving guests. If not using store-bought tomato sauce, saute garlic in olive oil, add white wine, basil, oregano, salt and pepper and a soup stock cube to a can of whole tomatoes, and simmer while crushing the tomatoes to make your own! Japanese Style Tofu en Cocotte with Lots of Sauce Japanese Style Tofu en Cocotte with Lots of Sauce
I became a cooking tester for Hondashi brand dashi granules, so I created this healthy cocotte. If you are using a steamer, steam for 10 minutes over a low heat after the steam has started to rise.Put the ingredients into a generously-sized container. The flavoring is on the sweet side, so please reduce the sugar to your taste. If you want the sauce to be quite thick, make it with 1 tablespoon of starch flour and 1 tablespoon of water. Sambal (Indonesian chilli sauce...extended) Sambal (Indonesian chilli sauce...extended)
I travel to Bali often and enjoy the street food there. My Balinese friend makes a great sambal so I always ask her to make one which is very dry and very very hot which allows me to easily carry it home and add more ingredients and oil before canning it. So I do advise, this is not the original recipe for sambal, this explains what I do to it after I get it home.I like to roast/grill the peppers and take the skin off. The taste is really much better.Once you have finished extending your sambal (at step 7) you can put it in the fridge for immediate use or proceed to preserve it for storage as I did in this case. For canning: If your sambal has any low acid content ingredients it needs to be pressure canned. Otherwise boiling water bath will be ok.My next trip to Bali, my friend has promised to show me how to cook her sambal. I hope I can master this teriffic recipe and share with you. There are many other good similar recipes on this site for you to try. Just search for sambal. darbo -
Root Beer BBQ Sauce Root Beer BBQ Sauce
I was planning to cook a steak today. Rather than giving the steak a spice rub, I opted to make a barbecue sauce utilizing the root beer in the fridge. It turned out well. I scored this little cast iron pot when I went to the store, so I was able to make the sauce on the grill. Karl -

Tofu with Imitation Crab and Eggs In Sweet and Sour Ketchup Sauce Tofu with Imitation Crab and Eggs In Sweet and Sour Ketchup Sauce
I wanted to eat tofu in a different way than I usually do, so I thought this up. I mixed my favorite ketchup with vinegar, and was able to come up with this mild sweet and sour ketchup sauce.1) When not using honey for the sauce, a tablespoon of sugar should suffice.2) Make sure to thoroughly drain the tofu. If you want to sweeten it, add sugar in 1/2 tablespoon intervals to taste. When you mix in the water, this is useful because the water from the tofu will drain out and mix with the ankake.3) I used a small 200g package of firm tofu. You can use silken tofu, but be aware that it breaks apart easily. Recipe by MilkLove cookpad.japan -
Our Family Favorite Tofu with 'Crab??' Sauce Our Family Favorite Tofu with 'Crab??' Sauce
This has been our family's favorite for a long time.Simple and delicious!Using tinned crab would be better but it is very expensive... we use the crab sticks instead and enjoy the taste of imitation crab (laugh). The water content of the type of tofu you use decides the taste.Don't forget to taste before adding the katakuriko mixture. If it is too bland add more salt.Tofu is very fragile. Move the frying pan around to mix the ingredients and your tofu will keep its shape. Recipe by Chokotaro cookpad.japan
