The only problem is this recipe probably was once Hawaiian Beans with bacon or spam and pineapple, but I had it first when the cook cut out the pineapple and I adapted it to my vegetarian taste and left out the meat. Either way, it is still delicious and loved by vegetarians and meat eaters a like. My boyfriend's favorite. And our little dog loves it too. 😆

Ingredients

1 hr
4-6 servings
  1. 1 (32 oz)can of vegetarian baked beans
  2. 1 (14 oz)can of butter beans
  3. 1 (14 oz)can of garbanzo beans, or 1 1/2 c. cooked garbanzo beans
  4. 2 tbspketchup
  5. 2 tbsppacked brown sugar
  6. 1-1/2 tbspmolasses
  7. 3-4 ozcheddar cheese, grated

Cooking Instructions

1 hr
  1. 1

    Heat oven to 375° F.

  2. 2

Mix baked beans with drained butter beans and garbanzo beans in a large mixing bowl.

  3. 3

Add ketchup, brown sugar and molasses and mix well.

  4. 4

Add grated cheddar to taste, about 3-4 ozs. If you want to lighten up the recipe, you can add less as it is still very tasty. The original recipe called for 8 oz but I rarely use this much.

  5. 5

Place beans on a baking dish. You may find you can use a 9x9 pan or a 9x13. You may grease the pan or spray with cooking spray, but I rarely do and have no problem.

  6. 6

Bake covered with aluminum foil for 20 mins. Uncover and cook for another 10-15 mins until browned on top.

  7. 7

Great served with a barbecue or picnic meal.
