So you want some donuts (or doughnuts 🤷🏾‍♀️?) but also want to steer clear of the fats that come with frying? Ever thought of baking 'em? 🙃

Ingredients

  1. 2 1/2 cupsall-purpose flour
  2. 1/4 cupsugar
  3. 2 1/4tsps instant yeast
  4. 1/4 tspsalt
  5. 2/3 cupswarm milk
  6. 3 tbspsmelted butter
  7. 2egg yolks
  8. 1/2 tspvanilla extract

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Melt your butter over boiling water

  2. 2

Sift 1 cup of flour and whisk with sugar, yeast and salt

  3. 3

Add the warm milk, melted butter, yolks and vanilla, and stir. Don't throw the egg whites away! Check out my Simple Fried Egg-Whites recipe for what you can do with them

  4. 4

Cover with cling film for about 10 minutes or until some bubbles form on the surface

  5. 5

Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups of flour and mix with a spatula till the dough forms and doesn't stick to the bowl. If the dough still sticks, add a little flour to it and knead for about 5 minutes or until it no longer sticks. Avoid adding too much flour to knead. Your dough should be soft and smooth at the end of the kneading

  6. 6

LIGHTLY grease your dough and bowl with vegetable. This will keep it from drying out. Cover with a cling film for about 45 minutes (depending on how hot your kitchen is) or till the dough doubles in size

  7. 7

Dust your work surface with flour and transfer the dough to it. Dust the top of the dough with flour and flatten it with a rolling pin/bottle till it's about 1/2 an inch thick

  8. 8

Using a round cookie cutter or any round object (preferably measuring cup), cut your dough into your preferred sizes. You can re-work any extra piece of dough and cut more pieces out of it

  9. 9

Transfer your cut dough to a lined baking tray and evenly space them

  10. 10

Cover the dough with a tea towel for 45 minutes to puff up

  11. 11

Bake in the centre of the oven at 300 - 350 ° F for about 10 minutes or till they're lightly golden on the outside

  12. 12

Fresh out the oven, coat them with some melted butter. This keeps the outer crust soft. You can dust them with some sugar after. I wanted to keep the sugar on the low, so I didn't

  13. 13

Using a small knife, make a hole in the side of the donuts and fill them with chocolate peanut butter (check out my Homemade Nutella recipe). You can use a piping bag

  14. 14

    And nibble away!!!!
