How to Roll an Inside-Out Sushi Roll (California Rolls)

I live in Canada. My school doesn't have a lunch program, so they bring bento. They bring sushi rolls to school once a week.
To make these rolls with a silicone sheet and no plastic wrap, see.
For California rolls using crabstick flakes, see.
When I serve this to a lot of people, at a party for instance, I cut the rolls into 8 pieces. Recipe by MatM

Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the ingredients. Cut 1/2 an avocado into 6 pieces. Use vinegared sushi rice or plain rice.
- 2
Line a makisu (bamboo sushi rolling mat) with plastic wrap.
- 3
Put a half-sheet of nori seaweed on the plastic wrap and cover it with rice. Use about 120 to 140 g of rice.
- 4
Flip the nori and rice over to put the rice on the bottom. Top with the crabsticks, lay down a line of mayonnaise, and then put on the avocado slices.
- 5
Flip over the edge of the sushi mat and press down tightly in the middle with your hands. By pressing down like this you will elminate any gaps between the fillings and the rice, and the rolls will be very tidy.
- 6
Roll the mat one more time and press down again.
- 7
This is how the roll looks when the mat is opened up. It's done. Cut the roll on a cutting board.
- 8
Cut into 6 pieces. Wipe the knife blade with a tightly wrung out moistened kitchen towel after each cut to cut the roll cleanly.
- 9
You can sprinkle the surface of the rolls with sesame seeds or flying fish roe (tobiko). If you are adding cucumber, cut it into thin strips and add it before you add the avocado.
- 10
Flaked salmon and avocado rolls: I used storebought "salmon flakes" (available at Japanese groceries) and avocado.
- 11
Tuna and avocado rolls: Drain the canned tuna, mix with mayonnaise and roll.
- 12
Wiener sausage and cucumber rolls.
- 13
This was for a potluck party. I cut the California rolls into 8 pieces, and decorated them with cut out carrot and colored usuyaki tamago (thin omelette).
- 14
To make sushi rice: Bring the vinegar, sugar and salt to a boil and cool. Mix it into the rice when the rice is cooked.
- 15
I have a recipe for making sushi rice using Japanese rice vinegar, with the appropriate amounts of sugar and salt.
- 16
You can use white wine vinegar made by overseas makers like Heinz.

Sometimes we leave out the vinegar rice what is do able but always add the sugar. This is a great alternative for the California roll .We found this on social media years ago and made our own changes from the original viral recipe. Theres many recipes out there now on this and they all look amazing. I seen some with whipped cheese cream, and everything bagels seasoning. This hits the spot for any sushi cravings and way cheaper .Go to shopping for ingredients is Aldi’s and Walmart for avocado and maybe the jasmine rice snackle time -

Lettuce Sushi Rolls Lettuce Sushi Rolls
When I was young, I often asked my mother to put these in my bentos for excursions and sporting events. I love how it feels like a salad, even though it's actually a main dish.Apparently, these lettuce rolls are originally from Miyazaki prefecture!! I had no idea. I live somewhere else, but I had them all the time as a child, so I grew up thinking they were known throughout the country. If you've never had these before, please give them a try! I've heard that people in Miyazaki use boiled shrimp instead of crab sticks! That sounds good, too!I didn't include cucumbers here, but they make a great filling for these rolls as well. This dish is a great when lettuce is inexpensive! Recipe by pom130 cookpad.japan -

I thought about making beef gyuudon for lunch, and had thawed out beef. However, I had eaten too much for breakfast and wouldn't be able to eat all of it, so I hurriedly decided to make beef rolls. Before when I finished rolling these up, the nori seaweed wouldn't hold together very well; however, this time I left the left edge of the seaweed rice-free, and piled up the left edge of the rice to about 1cm thick. Using this trick, I learned that you can wrap up the ingredients without slipping. For 2 people. Recipe by Yuuchikun cookpad.japan -
