Oriya bhog khichdi is offered to Lord Jaggannath in Puri Temple. It is made of perfect combination of rice and lentils with khada masala and vegetables. It is less spicy yet flavourful and have great nutritional value.

Oriya bhog khichdi is offered to Lord Jaggannath in Puri Temple. It is made of perfect combination of rice and lentils with khada masala and vegetables. It is less spicy yet flavourful and have great nutritional value.

Wash and soak rice and yellow moong dal in water for 30 minutes.

In a pressure cooker heat ghee. Add bay leaf, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, dry red chillies, mustard seeds and cumin seeds. When crackles add asafoetida and chopped green chillies. Add chopped tomato and ginger paste and saute for sometimes. Add chopped potato, carrot and cauliflower florets. Saute for sometimes. (You can add chopped French beans and green peas also)

Add soaked rice and moong dal (without water) and saute for a couple of minutes. Now add approximate 4 cups of water. Add salt, turmeric powder and garam masala powder. Mix well. Close with lid and cook until 3-4 whistles. Delicious and flavorful Khichdi is ready to serve. Serve with curd.
