Whisk the sugar and egg whites together until stiff peaks form when you lift the whisk from the bowl.

Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 30 minutes for meringues that are crisp on the outside and soft inside.

Bake for 1 hour if you want them to be very crisp throughout.
