A hearty soup with a few surprises. Not only does it has black beans it also has four types of peppers. With all this spice you have to have some type of sweetness. Boom sweet potatoes baby. Let's get ready for some chili.

My mother's first husband was Hispanic. The recipes are the only good thing that came out of the relationship.

When that first cold front comes in, it's Chili time. When I was a kid and sous-chef for my father this was his recipe that I tweaked.

This chili is full of spicy flavor, but is not hot as all in my family cannot tolerate the heat that I love! I serve with topping choices of diced jalapeños, grated cheddar cheese, sour cream and tortilla chips.

We only get a few chili weather days in Southern California, so we are taking advantage of them! (Chili weather being temps in the 60s - don't laugh, Rest of the Country Except Florida. It's all about acclimation. :P )I used Kidney for texture, Pinto for earthy flavor, and Cannellini for creaminess this time, but use whatever beans you like.If you don't care for ground beef, you can sub with ground turkey, chicken, or pork.

Once I found a recipe for Chili con Carne (Beef Chili) at Whole Foods. I had never made chili before. I prepared that chili and liked it, but over the years I made changes that made me like it even more.
