Jain Rasam Sadam
Steps
- 1
Heat about 1½ tbsp of Oil, in a pressure cooker. Add Mustard seeds, Dry Red Chillies, you can use any kind that you have at home. Once the Mustards seeds start to splutter, add in Asafoetida, and a few Curry leaves, give it a mix.
- 2
Add in Tomatoes finely chopped. Cook the Tomatoes for 2-3 minutes, also, add in Turmeric powder, Rasam powder and give a mix.
- 3
Let's add Rice that I have washed and soaked for about 15 mins. Next, add Split Pigeon peas, and Split Yellow lentils which I have also washed and soaked for 15 mins. Mix all these ingredients properly.
- 4
Add in 2½ cups of water. Salt to taste, and Tamarind pulp, give this a good mix!
- 5
Once the Water comes to a boil, cover it with the lid and let it cook for
about 4 whistles on a high flame. - 6
The Rice is nicely cooked and 4 whistles are up, so I'm going to let the
pressure cooker cool down. - 7
This is beautifully cooked give it a stir. It's a nice tangy Rasam flavored khichdi. Let's add in a little bit of coriander leaves and give it a mix.
