Ingredients

30 minutes
4-5 servings
  • 1 cupsplit and husked urad dal (about 200 grams)
  • 4 tablespoonsall-purpose flour (about 30 grams)
  • 3 cupssugar (about 600 grams), 2 cups water (about 480 ml)
  • 1/4 teaspoonorange food coloring
  • Edible silver leaf (optional, as needed)
  • Chopped pistachios (as needed)
  • Peanut oil (as needed for frying)

    Rinse the dal and soak it in water for 5-6 hours. Drain the water and grind the dal in a blender until you get a very fine paste.

    The dal should be ground to a smooth consistency. Add the food coloring and mix well.

    Add the all-purpose flour and mix thoroughly.

    Transfer the batter to a piping bag or icing cone and cut a small opening at the tip. Heat oil in a pan. Pipe the batter into the hot oil in the shape of imarti and fry until golden.

    In a separate pan, combine the sugar and water and bring to a boil. Take a lemon.

    Squeeze the lemon juice into the syrup. Add the fried imarti to the hot syrup and let them soak for 1-2 minutes.

    Remove the imarti from the syrup and place them on a large strainer to drain excess syrup.

    Garnish with edible silver leaf and chopped pistachios. Your delicious imarti is ready to serve.
