In a small pot, heat the milk with the lemon zest, cinnamon (save a little to sprinkle at the end), and sugar. Let it simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.
- 2
Soak the bread slices in the milk mixture, then dip them in beaten egg.
- 3
Fry in oil until golden brown on both sides.
- 4
Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon (optional, to taste). I served it with some scoops of ice cream, but you can accompany it with sweetened condensed milk, jams, or whatever you like.

Southern Chew Bread Southern Chew Bread
A friend and I recently went into a Southern country-kitchen-type eatery in North Carolina where they had "Chew Bread" in all caps on the menu board. Neither of us had ever heard of it, so we asked the waitress what it was. "Well, it's just... well... chew bread." The cook and one patron gave virtually identical descriptions, so we ordered some, but they were already out just one hour after opening.Curious now, I hit Google, where I found thousands of recipes. I pirated ideas from several and came up with this.Imagine a chewy brownie but with a caramel profile rather than chocolate. That's Chew Bread. culk0204 -
Braided Bread with Rounds Braided Bread with Rounds
The bread came out so very soft and fluffy. The rounds were so good but the bottom of them turned hard on the second day, but the bread was perfect. I had my rounds on the bottom rack of the oven which is gas. I am thinking they may have gotten too hot. We have 2 racks in the oven. The granddaughters wouldn't stop eating the braided bread. skunkmonkey101 -
Cream Rolls with Choux Pastry Made In a Bread Maker Cream Rolls with Choux Pastry Made In a Bread Maker
It's really easy to make Kikomoe's custard cream recipe and Poku-chan's choux pastry recipe so I came up the idea of combining them with a bread recipe.Make sure to properly chill the custard cream. I recommend doubling the original recipe so that you don't run out. If you fill the cream rolls with more than 1 tablespoon of filling they may explode, so don't go too crazy! You can't make the choux pastry ahead, so make sure to start preparing your ingredients during the second bread dough proofing. If you follow these instructions closely, you shouldn't have any problems. Recipe by Gomeko cookpad.japan -
Bread Rolls Bread Rolls
Bread rolls were the first kind of bread I ever made. I made these rolls with my favourite dough. When the dough is not stretching well, cover with a tightly wrung out kitchen towel and let it sit for a little while.I used about 1/2 an egg for the dough and the remaining for the glaze. Rusk-style Bread Crusts Rusk-style Bread Crusts
I love 5 slice (2.4-cm thick) sandwich bread, but it's hard to divide among three people! When I baked these up, they were a big hit! Since we are big eaters, this recipe was created out of desperation!I'm envious of families where everyone eats only 1 slice of bread each. Just today, my son ate 3 slices plus these bread crusts.Every toaster oven is different, so adjust this to suit your oven; bake these to the point where you think they might have baked for a bit too long. Keep an eye on them or they'll burn! Recipe by Team yokin cookpad.japan -
Extravagant Checkerboard Bread Rolls Extravagant Checkerboard Bread Rolls
I wanted to make cute-looking bread using my leftover custard and anko paste. This is a delicious dough even without the custard or an paste, so eat them by themselves, or add in your favorite filling.I changed the photo for the black cocoa version. Please choose whichever method you prefer.Shut off the bread machine after making the dough. Take the cocoa wetted with about 1 teaspoon water, mix into half of the divided dough, return it to the bread maker, and switch it on!It will mix up nicely in about 5 minutes. (You can also mix it by kneading it by hand.)Please adjust the baking time and temperature according to your household oven. Recipe by Youtank cookpad.japan -
Cute Braided Bread Cute Braided Bread
I saw this cute bread at a bakery, and I wanted to make one myself. After trial and error, I came up with this recipe. For cute braids, roll out the dough so that the center is fatter and the ends are skinnier. It is rather easier since you make it just like a regular braid. Make sure to soften the cranberries or raisins by soaking them in warm water then wipe them dry. Adjust the oven temperature as necessary for your oven. Recipe by shoken mama cookpad.japan -
Double-Soft Style Soft Bread Double-Soft Style Soft Bread

Dark Bread Dark Bread
A savory dark bread we used dipping into our chili. If you use vinegar in this recipe remember it's acidic. Acid counters yeast and hinder it's rising, but it also counters gluten and breaks it down and cause it to become very sticky and a bit harder to work with. It's a welcomed flavour to this bread. A couple of tablespoons of vinegar about 3% acidity would be nice. skunkmonkey101 -
Crispy and Chewy Curry Bread Crispy and Chewy Curry Bread
I made curry bread using leftover dry curry from dinner!! It was a spur of the moment decision, but they were so good I was surprised. The dough is on the thinner side, so try not to over-stuff them. Please seal the edges securely closed. Since the dough has shiratamako, it's chewy and delicious. I kept it simple by using pancake mix!! I really recommend this recipe!!
