The bread came out so very soft and fluffy. The rounds were so good but the bottom of them turned hard on the second day, but the bread was perfect. I had my rounds on the bottom rack of the oven which is gas. I am thinking they may have gotten too hot. We have 2 racks in the oven. The granddaughters wouldn't stop eating the braided bread.

  14. 1large egg
  15. 1/4 cupcold water for egg wash
  16. To taste granulated garlic powder optional

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Mix the yeast ingredients. Let it bloom, this will take about 10 minutes. Mix the dough mixture ingredients and add the yeast. Mix it together kneading it till it's incorporated and dough feels firm.

  2. 2

Warm the oven to 250° Fahrenheit, then turn it off. Oil the bowl and add the ball of dough to it. Coat the dough ball with oil cover with a lid. Put in the warm oven, for 1 hour to rise.

  3. 3

Poke the risen dough and allow it to rise again. I didn't have my camera for the first rise. This is the second one pictured.

  4. 4

Preheat the oven to 400° Fahrenheit. Get 3 parts of the dough the same size. Roll each one out really long then braid them together. Beat the eggs and add in the water making an egg wash.

  5. 5

Brush on the egg wash melt some butter and drizzle on top especially into the braided creases. Put into oven and bake for 1 hour. Take out and brush on more melted butter. Put back in the oven for 15 minutes more.

  6. 6

With the rest of the dough form round balls and put on a baking sheet with parchment paper. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with granulated garlic powder. Put into the oven for 45-50 minutes. Brush with butter and put back in the oven for 5 minutes. Serve with butter, I hope you enjoy!!!!
