Japanese rice with bonito flakes and soy sauce - Nekomanma (literal translation means Cat rice) 🐱🍚🇯🇵

Watching Midnight Dinner (深夜食堂) in Netflix made me want to eat this!!

Rice, bonito flakes(Katsuobushi) and soy sauce are the most important ingredients for Japanese. And we sometimes just eat them together like this, putting some Bonito flakes and soy sauce drizzled on top of rice.😅

The old time before cat food was invented, people used to be giving their leftover food to cats and that’s how this dish is called “Nekomanma (cat rice)”.

By the way, this “Nekomanma” is Kanto area(eastern part of Japan) style. In Kansai area(western part of Japan), what people call “Nekomanma” is a rice mixed with miso soup. And especially the latter style of “Nekomanma” is considered as a rude way of eating, so we just enjoy at home(it’s not something we offer to guests or eat outside).
