Wash both dals in running water 2-3 times. Discard water and transfer dal in a pressure cooker. Add salt, turmeric powder and water. Add grated tomato in it and place the lid. Cook till 2-3 whistles and switch off the flame. Let pressure release automatically. Open the lid and check dal.

Heat ghee in a tadka pan. Add cumin seeds and when cumin seeds splutter add red chilli, asafoetida and garam masala.

Transfer this tadka over dal.

Serve it hot with rice or chapatti garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
