Jawla is a variety of Tiny Shrimp.They are either sold fresh in markets or available in dried form.Here it is made with fresh tiny shrimps and an unique recipe of crispy fried fried jawla fritters combined with healthy mixed vegetables and protein rich lentils.These fritters popularly known as shrimp pakora are relished as an appetizer or as a tea time snack. Ingredients

  • 150 gmsJawla (Tiny Shrimp)
  • 1onion chopped finely
  • 2 tbspcabbage shredded finely
  • 2 tbspcarrot grated
  • 1/2capsicum chopped finely
  • 3-4green and red chillies chopped finely
  • 2 tbspred lentils / masoor dal
  • 1 tspginger garlic paste
  • 2 tbspcoriander chopped finely
  • 1/4 th cup gramflour
  • 3 tbspall-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsprice flour
  • 1/4 th tsp baking powder
  • To taste salt
  • 1/4 th tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tspKashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 th tsp chaat masala
  • As neededoil for deep frying

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

    Clean and wash tiny shrimps.Strain water completely and smear pinch of salt.Set aside.Soak lentils for 2 hours.Drain water and grind to a smooth paste.Assemble all the chopped and shredded ingredients in a bowl. Add lentil paste,gramflour,rice flour and all-purpose flour. Also add ginger garlic paste,baking powder or soda, turmeric, red chilli powder and chaat masala.Mix all without adding any water.

    Add jawla, chopped coriander and mix all. If needed add some more gramflour if the consistency is soft.Heat oil in a pan.Pinch portions of the mixture and fry in low to medium flame till golden brown and crisp.

    Serve hot as a side with rice and dal, as an appetizer or as a tea time snack. These fritters can also be packed in kid's tiffin box.Serve Jawla or Tiny Shrimp and Mixed Vegetable Fritters with Hot and Sweet Tomato Chilli Sauce or any other dips of choice.
