Prep: Wash the lettuce and pat dry. Cook the egg over-easy or over-hard. Toast the bread.

Lay a sheet of plastic wrap on your work surface and place a slice of bread on top. Spread butter on one slice and mayonnaise on the other.

Layer the lettuce on the slice with mayonnaise. Add extra mayonnaise between layers to help hold the lettuce together.

Keep stacking the lettuce—it will get tall! Pile it all on, then place the cooked egg on top and season with salt and pepper.

Add the ham (or bacon), then top with the other slice of bread. Use the plastic wrap underneath to wrap the sandwich tightly, pressing down firmly to compress it to a regular sandwich size.

Cut the sandwich in half through the plastic wrap, and it’s ready to serve!
