Cooking Instructions
- 1
Cut the cod into bite-sized pieces depending on its size. Place on a strainer, sprinkle both sides lightly with salt, and let sit for about 10 minutes.
- 2
Pat the moisture off the cod with paper towels. Lightly coat both sides with flour using a tea strainer.
- 3
Thinly slice the onion, julienne the carrot, remove the stem and seeds from the bell pepper and slice thinly. Remove the stems from the shiitake mushrooms and slice the caps and stems thinly.
- 4
Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan, add the cod, and cook until both sides are nicely browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- 5
Wipe the frying pan with a paper towel, add more oil, and heat. Stir-fry the vegetables.
- 6
Once the vegetables are tender, add the dashi stock, vinegar, soy sauce, and sugar.
- 7
After simmering for about 2 minutes, turn off the heat and quickly stir in the cornstarch slurry. (See tips below)
- 8
Continue stirring the sauce with a wooden spatula over low heat until it thickens, then pour over the cod from step 4 to finish.

I had some leftover bean sprouts, so I came up with a recipe I could make fairly quickly... Eggplant, Bell peppers and Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce Eggplant, Bell peppers and Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce
Green bell peppers and eggplant were in season this summer and autumn in my garden!I added some chicken breast that was on sale for around 100 yen ($1) to make dinner! It looks like sweet and sour pork so I cooked it using a similar sauce. It'll taste better when cooled if you use just a small bit of sauce. It's delicious in bento, too!-It's nice even without doubanjiang spicy bean paste!-Substitute chili oil or ichimi togarashi (japanese red chilli pepper) for the doubanjiang spicy bean paste.-Adding extra bamboo shoot, carrot, onion and shiitake mushrooms would be perfect. Like sweet and sour pork!-Do not stir fry the bell peppers too long or they'll lose their crunchiness.-Reduce the sauce at the end so that ketchup and vinegar are less acidic. Tofu with Imitation Crab and Eggs In Sweet and Sour Ketchup Sauce Tofu with Imitation Crab and Eggs In Sweet and Sour Ketchup Sauce
I wanted to eat tofu in a different way than I usually do, so I thought this up. I mixed my favorite ketchup with vinegar, and was able to come up with this mild sweet and sour ketchup sauce.1) When not using honey for the sauce, a tablespoon of sugar should suffice.2) Make sure to thoroughly drain the tofu. If you want to sweeten it, add sugar in 1/2 tablespoon intervals to taste. When you mix in the water, this is useful because the water from the tofu will drain out and mix with the ankake.3) I used a small 200g package of firm tofu. You can use silken tofu, but be aware that it breaks apart easily. Recipe by MilkLove cookpad.japan -

Sweet and Sour Sauce for Egg Foo Yong Sweet and Sour Sauce for Egg Foo Yong
Ever since I was a child, I liked to putter around in the kitchen. Sometimes I watched my late mom cooking. Most of the time she asked me to do this and that. I can still hear her voice telling me to peel or chop something. Growing up, I was blessed with a warm family and a home full of delicious dishes. My mother was always cooking something. Spicy rendang, stir-fry, seafood dishes, oh, how I'the love to return to that state of bliss when my parents were still alive and we could have a normal dinner together, chatting about mundane stuff.I am grateful for those memories. Now I am passing them to my kids. They are no stranger in the kitchen and in a way I am happy because my mother would love this.I learned (and am still learning) cooking by trial and error. The internet has opened my eyes to plenty of food around the world, but sometimes I yearn for the familiar, like this sweet and sour sauce. Being an Asian, we naturally collect tomato and chili sauce sachets from take-outs so we always have some around the house.#givingthanks Angela Mertoyono -

I don't like sweet and sour pork made with deep fried pork, so at some point I started using easy to make meatballs instead.
