Recipe background:
I had leftover daikon and mochi, so I decided to make ozoni. Since I was short on time, I used grated daikon instead of slicing it.

Steps
- 1
Peel the daikon and grate it. Slice the scallion thinly.
- 2
Grate the ginger. Cut the pork into pieces about 3/4 inch (2 cm) wide. Remove the seeds from the chili pepper and slice it into thin rings with scissors.
- 3
Start toasting the mochi in a toaster oven or similar appliance.
- 4
Add the pork, ginger, chili pepper, and mentsuyu to a pot. Simmer until the pork is cooked through.
- 5
Add the grated daikon with its juice to the pot and bring to a gentle boil.
- 6
Add the toasted mochi to the pot. Once it comes to a boil again, it’s ready. Serve in bowls and sprinkle with the sliced scallion.
