When we were first married, we received a 5 quart hand crank ice cream freezer as a gift. This was one of the first recipes we ever made with it. Now after many years and over a half dozen ice cream freezers, we have two smaller, electric freezers. We have reduced our favorite recipe to fit the "modern" tools of the trade!

Ingredients

15-20 minutes
4 servings
  • 1large Egg
  • 2/3 cupSugar
  • 2 tsp.Vanilla
  • 1 1/2square German Sweet Chocolate
  • 1 1/2squares Semi Sweet Chocolate
  • 2/3 pintHeavy Cream
  • 1+ quart Milk

Steps

15-20 minutes
  1. 1

    Slowly mix together Egg, sugar and vanilla.

  2. 2

    Melt the chocolates the (approximately 2 minutes in a microwave.) Do not burn!

  3. 3

    Add 1/2 of the chocolate to the mix.

  4. 4

    Add the cream AFTER the chocolate.

  5. 5

    While mixing, drizzle the rest of the chocolate into the mix.

  6. 6

    Add milk and our into freezer. (Add more/less milk to fill your freezer.

  7. 7

    Freeze per manufacturer instructions.

This looks great. I’ve had a few hand crank, with a freezer insert and had some great results. I recently bought a smaller version from Pampered Chef that has electric stirring. I’m optimistic about this post and planning to try it.
