In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, add the black pepper, salt, finely minced garlic, and onion sliced into thin strips.

Stir until the onion is translucent.

Add the shrimp, cover the pot, and stir occasionally until most of the shrimp turn pink. This should take just a few minutes.

Add the ketchup and mandarin soda, stir, and let it simmer for 10 minutes.

Serve hot.
