Dill Leaves Dal Vada is a popular south indian Karnataka Street food. This is deep fried snack made with chana dal or split bengal gram. it is generally made for breakfast as a side dish to idli or dosa, but can also be made for a celebration feast. it is generally eaten by itself but tastes great with coconut chutney or green chutney. these vada’s can easily survive 4-5 days when preserved in an airtight container.

Dill Leaves Dal Vada is a popular south indian Karnataka Street food. This is deep fried snack made with chana dal or split bengal gram. it is generally made for breakfast as a side dish to idli or dosa, but can also be made for a celebration feast. it is generally eaten by itself but tastes great with coconut chutney or green chutney. these vada’s can easily survive 4-5 days when preserved in an airtight container.

Firstly, in a large bowl soak chana dal for 2 hours. Drain off the water and rest for 20 minutes or until the dal drains of water completely. Remove 2 tbsp of chana dal in other small bowl.

Transfer the soaked & drained chana dal into mixi jar. Also add ginger,green chillies, cumin seed, dry coriander seeds, fennel seeds and salt. Blend to a coarse paste without adding any water.
Now transfer the chana dal paste to a large mixing bowl. - 3
Further add finely chopped onion, finely chopped sweet curry leaves, soaked chana dal and mix very well. Then add finely chopped green coriander leaves, chopped dill leaves, turmeric powder, garam masala and asafoetida. Squeeze and combine them well.

Further more, grease your hand with oil and prepare small balls, flatten the vada.

Deep fry in hot oil. Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan and when it's hot enough, drop 3 to 4 vada in it. Fry them till the color changes to little brown. Once done, using a slotted ladle remove them from oil.

Finally, serve dal vada hot along with masala chai. Very delicious chana dal vada is ready to serve along with cup of hot tea.
