Ingredients

  1. 1 CupRice
  2. ½ CupGreen Gram
  3. 1 CupMilk
  4. 3 CupsJaggery
  5. 4 TablespoonsGhee
  6. 2 TablespoonsCashewnuts
  7. 2 TablespoonsRaisins
  8. 5Cardamom (powdered)
  9. 2Cloves (powdered)
  10. 1/2 TeaspoonCinnamon (powdered)
  11. 1Nutmeg (powdered)
  12. 2 1/2 CupsWater

Steps

60 mins
  1. 1

    Cook rice and green gram in milk and water.

  2. 2

    In a saucepan, put jaggery and pour the water. Heat it and let the jaggery melt in the water.

  3. 3

    If there are any impurities, remove them and continue heating the jaggery syrup. Heat it till it's a little sticky.

  4. 4

    Add the cooked rice and dal to jaggery. Add the powdered cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove. Mix all thoroughly.

  5. 5

    Heat the ghee and fry the cashews and raisins in it. Add it to the pongal.

  6. 6

    Switch off the heat and serve the sweet pongal hot or cold.
