Broken wheat upma
A healthy and nutritious South Indian breakfast.
Steps
- 1
Chop carrots into small cubes. Chop ginger and green chillies finely and set aside.
- 2
Heat oil in a kadai and splutter mustard seeds. Add ginger, green chillies and onions and saute till translucent. Add chopped tomato, carrots, curry leaves and green peas and fry till soft.
- 3
Add 3 cups of water and let it boil. Add salt to taste.
- 4
Add the broken wheat and let it cook until soft. Broken wheat unlike semolina takes more time to cook, so keep adding water until it is well cooked.
- 5
Serve hot. You can add masala like corriander powder, jeera powder and turmeric if desired but today I made it without any of those.
