Ingredients

  • 1 kgChicken cut into medium pieces
  • 1/2 cupShallots sliced
  • 2 TbspsGinger-Garlic paste
  • 1/2 TspTurmeric powder
  • 1 1/2 TspsCoriander powder
  • 2 TspsRed Chilli powder
  • 3/4 TspsPepper powder
  • 2 TspsGaram Masala Powder
  • 3 TbspsLemon juice
  • to tasteSalt
  • 5 TbspsCoconut Oil
  • 3 1/2 CupsOnion sliced thin
  • 3 SprigsCurry Leaves
  • 1/2 CupCoconut Milk
  • 1 sprigCurry leaves
  • 1/2 TspsGaram Masala powder
  • 1 TspCoconut Oil

Steps

  1. 1

    Grind everything under 'To Grind' into a coarse paste. Use half of this paste to marinate the chicken. Keep it for 30-60 mins.

  2. 2

    Shallow fry the chicken pieces in 3 Tbsp Oil  in a non stick pan until both sides are light brown. Transfer to a pressure cooker.

  3. 3

    To the same pan add rest of the oil and saute Onion and curry leaves until onion turns light brown

  4. 4

    Lower the heat and add rest of the paste from step 1. Saute until raw smell goes away and it becomes brownish black in color.

  5. 5

    Add the above mixture to the chicken waiting in pressure cooker.  Add 2 cups of water. Wait for 3 whistles. Let it cool down.

  6. 6

    Transfer the contents to the pan and let the gravy thicken.

  7. 7

    Once its almost dry, add the coconut milk.

  8. 8

    Switch off the flame. Sprinkle the items under 'To Garnish'. Close the lid and rest it for 30 mins.
