An easy recipe to enjoy these breads our grandmothers used to make for afternoon tea. Enjoy!

Make a well in the flour mixed with salt, then add the melted shortening, 1 cup of warm water, and the yeast to the center. Mix well.

Knead everything together until you have a soft, elastic dough that makes a slight sound when pressed, about 10 minutes. Add more water if needed.

Shape the dough into a log and cut it into 16 equal pieces. Cover them with a kitchen towel. Shape each piece into a roll.

Let the rolls rise for 1 1/2 hours in a warm place, covered with the towel.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).

Poke the rolls with a fork and bake for 30 minutes or until lightly golden.

Serve warm. To reheat, wrap in a damp towel and microwave.
