First, prepare the custard. In a saucepan, combine the milk, semolina, salt, and sugar. Stir over low heat.

When the custard thickens, add the vanilla and butter. Remove from heat.

Place one sheet of puff pastry in a baking pan and pour in the custard after it has cooled slightly. Cover with the second sheet of puff pastry and seal the edges all around.

Score into pieces and bake at 350°F (180°C) for about 40 minutes, depending on your oven.

Remove from the oven and generously sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon.

If using phyllo dough, brush each sheet with oil or butter.
