Sweet Savoury Pasta Meat Sauce Kid-Friendly (Bolognese)

Here in Manila we love our spaghetti a bit sweetish and very saucy. 😋 So both the kids and kids at heart love it.
This was gone after the first two sets of guests arrived! Spaghetti is always a crowd pleaser in gatherings here. You can use your favorite pasta on this too.
Sweet tomato / spaghetti sauces are readily available in our supermarkets in Manila. If there aren't any in your area, just add brown sugar to adjust the sweetness. :) I still use fresh tomatoes when making pasta sauce, as it enhances the flavor (which is not common practice here). My rule is, don't just open something and heat it, always add to it and make it your own! 😊 I also combine different types/flavors of the tomato/spaghetti sauces, because it makes the end result better and tastier.

Cooking Instructions
- 1
In a large sauce pan, heat the butter and oil together then drop in your onions then your garlic. Sauté until onions are translucent. Drop in your diced or minced bell pepper. Continue sautéing.
- 2
Bacon! Who doesn't love bacon? This will also make your sauce tastier.
- 3
Coarsely chop and add to the pan. Lower the heat. Sauté continuously and avoid burning anything. When bacon oil has oozed out do the next step. (Yum!)
- 4
Add your thawed ground beef after a few minutes. Stir in with the onion-garlic-bacon then spread flat on the pan to cook evenly. Season with salt, pepper, soy seasoning and your dried herbs. Leave alone, cover and let the juices and oils of the beef come out.
- 5
Stir thoroughly then drop in your tomatoes. Keep heat in low-medium. Cover and let the juices of the tomatoes come out.
- 6
Taste and adjust the salt, pepper. Then add the tomato sauce and sweet spaghetti sauce. I normally choose one with mixed in cheese/es. If you don't have these, choose your cheese (cheddar, parmesan, quick melt type) and grate a good amount over the pot. Don't forget to taste test before adding more.
- 7
Mix well then cover and let it simmer on low heat, stirring every now and then to keep the bottom from burning. Simmer until the tomatoes have lost their shape/melted a bit with the sauce. (In the photo you can still see the tomatoes, this is not ready yet). Add more sauce pack if you want it saucier.
- 8
For the spicy adult version, add the chilies now. You can also use the powder kind or chili flakes. Stir, simmer 5 more minutes. Always taste before adding more. Serve.
- 9
Top over your favorite pasta.

Pasta Bolognese with Yakiniku Sauce Pasta Bolognese with Yakiniku Sauce
This recipe came to me while I was looking at yakiniku sauce. I thought I could deliciously make a bolognese with yakiniku sauce so I made it happen.Use sugar to adjust the bitterness of the tomatoes. If you add vegetable oil while boiling the pasta, it keeps them from sticking together and is easy to eat. This is optional. This has a strong flavor, so be careful not to add too much salt and pepper. Recipe by Necchan cookpad.japan -
Kid-Friendly Meat Sauce for Pasta Kid-Friendly Meat Sauce for Pasta
I like to use a little brown sugar and ketchup when I make sauce for little ones because it imparts that nice, rounded, caramelized sweetness that appeals to a child's palate without making the sauce excessively sweet and flat like I find many jarred sauces to be.I also like to mince the onions when I make sauce for kids because they often like the flavor of onions, but they don't necessarily enjoy chunks of onion. And sweating them for a longer time over just medium heat versus sauteing for a shorter time over medium high or high heat breaks them down better, makes them softer and sweeter, and tames some of their sulfur and heat.Don't worry. Your kids can still grow up to have more sophisticated palates. Both of my teenagers did. But they still thoroughly enjoy the sauce when I make it this way for my four year old. ;) x -

Everyone Loves This Meat Sauce (Bolognese) Everyone Loves This Meat Sauce (Bolognese)
I used to cook pasta dishes with canned tomatoes, but I thought I could make tastier meat sauce than the usual. So I got the idea to combine the sauce you usually serve on hamburger steaks with canned whole tomatoes.1. Saute the onion over low heat until it's caramelized to bring out the sweetness.2. Evaporate the alcohol in the red wine over high heat.3. Simmer the canned tomatoes over low heat, and keep simmering it 5 minutes after bringing to a boil to bring out its sweetness.
