Ingredients

2apples finely chopped
1/2 tspbicarb soda
1 cupboiling water
185 gallonbutter
1 cupcaster sugar
1egg
2 cupplain flour
1 cupdates
2apples finely chopped

Steps

Grease and line cake pan with greased paper

Set oven to 140°F

Combine apples, dates soda and water in bowl. Cover and cool

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
5

Beat in egg
6

Stir in sifted flour and apple mixture
7

Pour into prepared pan and bake for about 1 1/4 hour

Stand for 5 mins before turning onto wire rack to cool
9

Substitute raisins/sultanas for dates and pear for apple
