According to people who have researched this, the Halekulani Hotel makes the best mai tai, "better than the original" from Trader Vic's, said Vic himself. The hotel has generously published their recipe. Most places make the drink too sweet with pineapple juice.

Build over crushed ice and float on top the 3/ 4 ounce of Bacardi Select Rum. • Garnish with lime wheel, sugar cane stick, mint leaf, and Vanda orchid.
