Steps
- 1
In a bowl, combine the semolina and melted ghee. Mix well, but don't overmix.
- 2
Add the yogurt, shredded coconut, and sugar.
- 3
Add the baking powder and mix well. Once combined, grease a baking pan.
- 4
Pour the mixture into the pan and spread it evenly so the thickness is uniform. You can top it with pistachios, peanuts, or walnuts if you like. Bake in a preheated oven at medium heat.
- 5
To make the syrup, place the sugar, water, and vanilla in a saucepan. Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon. Bring to a boil over high heat, then add the tablespoon of ghee.
- 6
Bake until the edges are golden brown, then remove from the oven and pour the syrup over the basbousa.
- 7
Cut into pieces. Tip: Cut it after it has cooled.
