Ingredients

  1. 2 cupsRice.
  2. 1/2 cupMasoor dal.
  3. 3 tbspCurd
  4. 11/2 tspGinger garlic paste.
  5. Onion sliced. 1 large
  6. 5Slitted green chillies.
  7. 15Mint leaves.
  8. 3 tbspCoriander leaves.
  9. 1/2 tspTurmeric powder.
  10. to tasteSalt
  11. 4Cloves.
  12. Cinnamon stick. Small
  13. 3Cardamom.
  14. 1Bay leaf.
  15. 1/2 tspShahi jeera.
  16. 1 tbspOil.
  17. 2 tbspGhee

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash the rice,masoor dal or red lentil and soak in 5 glasses of water for 20 min.

  2. 2

    Heat the deep bottom vessel along with oil and ghee.

  3. 3

    Add cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, bay leaf and allow to release aroma then add shahi jeera.

  4. 4

    Add sliced onions and saute till the onions become translucent. Add ginger garlic paste and saute until the raw smell disappears.

  5. 5

    Add turmeric powder and mix it well. Add curd and mix it well.

  6. 6

    Add soaked rice and mix it well. Add water slitted green chillies,mint and coriander leaves.

    Cook on high flame for 5 min,then reduce the flame and cook for 20 min.

  8. 8

    Serve with til ka katta.(roasted sesame seeds onions,green chillies and tamarind pulp)
