Steps

Pressure cook the dal with water for around 4-5 whistles and then churn it with a hand blender.

Heat oil and ghee. Temper with mustard,cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cloves,dry red chilli, curry leaves, asafoetida and let them fragrant and splutter.

Add tomato chopped and stir everything well. Cook it for 2-3 mins until the tomato turn mushy. Then add the churned dal and water. Let it come to a boil. Bubble it on low-medium heat.Now add salt,turmeric, red chilli, cumin, coriander powder, cocum and give it a good mix.

Add the jaggery, coriander leaves choppedand then let the dal simmer for about 8-10 mins on a low flame.Once the dal is cooked and has the proper consistency turn off the flame. Serve it hot with plain rice or roti.
