Wash rice and dal and soak for 15 minutes.

Take one medium sized vessel with thick bottom keep on flame add desi ghee, cumin seeds roast few seconds now add chopped onion saute add black pepper, cloves and cinnamon fry till onion becomes translucent. Now pour water add turmeric powder and salt let the water boil. When water comes to the boil add rice and dal mixture cook till rice dal gets tender. Khichdi is ready to serve. Serve with any sabji or kadhi.. we can serve khichdi with roasted papad, achar also.
