Ingredients

20-25 minutes
Serves 5-6 servings
  • 1 teaspoonmustard seeds
  • 1large bowl mixed sprouts (whole green moong beans, moth beans, black chickpeas)
  • 1/4 cupyellow peas (about 40 grams)
  • 2onions, chopped
  • 3tomatoes, chopped
  • 8-10garlic cloves
  • 3-4green chilies
  • 1 tablespoonwhole coriander seeds
  • 1 stickcinnamon
  • 1-2bay leaves
  • 7-8curry leaves
  • 4-5 piecesdried coconut, chopped
  • 1 tablespoongaram masala
  • 1 tablespoonKashmiri chili powder
  • 1-inch piece ginger, chopped
  • 15pav rolls
  • 1 bowlcilantro, chopped
  • 1 bowlspicy Indian snack mix (sev or farsan)
  • 1onion, finely chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoonsoil

Steps

20-25 minutes

    First, wash the sprouts thoroughly and boil them in a pressure cooker with salt. Chop the onions, tomatoes, and cilantro and set aside.

    Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onions, garlic, ginger, and coconut pieces, and sauté well.

    Next, add tomatoes, Kashmiri chili powder, and turmeric. Sauté well, then let the mixture cool. Grind it into a paste using a blender.

    Heat the skillet again and add 2 more tablespoons oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Add the ground masala paste and sauté well. Once the masala is cooked, add 2 cups water (about 480 ml) and bring to a boil.

    Add the boiled sprouts and cook for 10 minutes.

    To serve, top the misal with lemon juice, chopped cilantro, finely chopped onion, and spicy snack mix. Serve hot with buttered pav rolls.
