This is a simple and flavorful traditional Punjabi chana dal khichdi made with basmati rice, chana dal and spices.

First rinse and soak the chana dal overnight or for 4-5 hours or soak for 1 hour in hot water.Also rinse and soak the rice for 30 minutes. Later strain the chana dal of the water and keep aside.

Heat oil in the kadai, lower the flame. Add cumin seeds after crackling it add cinnamon stick, green chillies, grated ginger, Hing, salt and red chilli powder

Stir and fry for a few seconds, add soaked rice and chana dal then add 3 cups water.Mix it gently and taste the saline water.At this stage you can add required amount of salt if it is less otherwise it's ok

Cover this with the lid and cook for 10-15 minutes. First on medium flame, once the water began to boil
Then lower the flame and cook for 10-15 minutes. After 15 minutes check either khichdi is cooked or not.when the khichdi is completely cooked add lemon juice of 1 lemon and switch off the flame and cover it with lid. - 5
After 5 minutes open the lid and yummy chana dal khichdi is ready to eat.
