Simple Gratin Potatoes Recipe

Ingredients

15 minutes preparation + 45 minutes cooking time

  1. 8medium size Potatoes (thinly sliced)
  2. 2 tbsButter
  3. 1 1/2 tbspall purpose flour
  4. 1/4 cupcream
  5. 1/2 cupmilk
  6. 1/2 tspChicken stock
  7. 1onion (cut into dice)
  8. 1 clovegarlic (thinly sliced)
  9. to tasteSalt, Black pepper, and nutmeg
  10. 175 grBacon
  11. 100 grGrated Chees

Cooking Instructions

15 minutes preparation + 45 minutes cooking time

    Preheat oven to 170 degrees C.

    Heat the sliced potatoes in the microwave with the maximum heat for 4 minutes.

    In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, stir for about 1 minute.

    Add the flour, and stir constantly for one minute. Stir in milk, cream, salt, chicken stock, nutmeg, and black pepper. Cook until the sauce has thickened.

    Layer the potatoes into bottom of the prepared casserole dish (make it one layer). Top with the sauce, bacon, and cheese.

  6. 6

    Make the second layer of Potatoes, top with sauce, bacon, and cheese. Repeat until all potatoes, sauce, bacon and cheese are used.

    Bake in the oven for 45 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked well.

Made it .. Tasty. Comments: potatoes by weight would be helpful your medium and mine are not the same !! Microwave potato slices too short - mine were still hard at twice the time. Because of this I had to double the bake time as the potatoes were still not soft. I cooked the bacon to reduce fat and would use more bacon next time. I WILL make it again :)
