Prepare ingredients (bring butter and egg to room temperature; chop nuts)

Beat sugar, oil, and salt until smooth, then add chopped orange peel and beat until slightly pale (adding orange peel here helps infuse the butter with orange flavor; can be omitted if unavailable)

Add the egg in two parts and beat until fluffy (stop when it reaches a velvety texture; overbeating will make the cookies too crumbly)

Sift the flour and mix it in

Divide the dough and place on a baking sheet (using an ice cream scoop makes it easier)
