Yemen style from online recipe .this is a heat food so is better
best on a colder day .and is simply delish and healthy .also a sunna food mentioned in the Quran as adasi ,(can read it up in shaAllah)and also used in Middle Eastern ,north african arabia and Asian cuisines ..and maybe other countries if you interested to read up.these raw ones do tend to sprout easily upon storage .and this particular split ones need not soak for overnight or even hours ...just half an hour in warm water and they are ready to cook into those lovely onions and spices .#mycookbook

Ingredients

  • Split red lentils(1 mug, about 250 grams)
  • 1mug warm Water for soaking(drained later)
  • 2medium white Onions diced
  • Halfcan chopped tomatoes about 3 large tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1level tablespoon thick tomato paste
  • Cooking oil
  • Spices: salt, turmeric, plain paprika powder,
  • Spices: mild Madrasa curry, garlic, red chilli flakes (as preferred)
  • 2mugs plain water
  • 1 teaspoonMustard seed (optional)
  • 1medium green or mixed pepper
  • Coriander small bunch (optional)

Steps

  1. 1

    Soak the lentils in warm water.meanwhile dice peel prep onions, and prep spices: garlic, salt, turmeric, paprika, powder, tomatoes and tomatoes puree, mixed spice, mustard seeds (optional).also blend the tomatoes

    Heat oil well in pan Fry onions by stirring frequently under medium heat, until almost dark brown but not burnt. Then reduce heat a bit. Then add spices, briefly until aroma starts.

    Then add drained lentils.then cook for briefly about 5 mins.and then add the blended tomatoes and the puree. add more salt as required.then let cook further a bit. Then cook about 10 mins..

    After dried out and almost but not sticking to pan, add 2 mugs (about 500 ml)of plain water.then simmer under medium low heat until lentils are soft and not too mushy.van top up with sliced green peppers

    Then now your lentil are done.serve over coconut rice, or any breads of choice... with yogart and onion garnish or any yogurt raitas of choice. Here served with wholemeal flat breads.Bismillah and enjoy
