Ingredients

  • 1/4 kgSundaikkai/Turkey Berry(crushed and deseeded)
  • 3 tspSesame Oil
  • 1/4 tspMustard seeds
  • 1/4 tspAsafoetida
  • 8Shallots roughly chopped
  • 1Dry Red Chilli Broken
  • 2 tspCurry leaves
  • 1Medium Size Tomato chopped
  • 1/2 cupTamarind extract
  • 5Garlic pods roughly chopped
  • 1/4 tspTurmeric powder
  • 1 tspSambhar powder
  • Salt-as per your taste
  • Water-as required
  • 1/4 tspJaggery powder
  • 2 tspCoriander leaves
  • For Grinding
  • 1/4 cupGrated Coconut
  • 1/4 tspFenugreek seeds(dry roasted)
  • Water-as required

Steps

  1. 1

    Add the ingredients given for grinding in a blender. Grind to a smooth paste by adding water gradually.

  2. 2

    In a currypan, add oil. Once oil gets heat, add mustard seeds and asafoetida. Fry it.

  3. 3

    Add shallots,dry red chilli and curry leaves. Saute till shallots becomes translucent.

  4. 4

    Add Sundaikkai, saute for 5 mins in medium flame.

  5. 5

    Add Tomatoes. Saute for 2 mins. Then add tamarind extract. Mix well.

  6. 6

    Add garlic, turmeric powder, sambar powder and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook for 10 mins in medium flame.

  7. 7

    Add the ground paste and some water. Mix well. Cover and cook in medium flame till Sundaikkai gets cooked.

  8. 8

    Add jaggery powder and garnish with coriander leaves. Transfer to a bowl.

  9. 9

    Now it's ready to serve with hot rice.
