Come Islamic Month of Muharram, Doodh Ka Sharbat is a must have for Muslims all over the Country. This one is not only loaded with nutritional benefits for everyone, but also a Protein and Carb-rich treasure. In this particular version, what I have done is to give it an awesome twist with the use of Saffron or Zaafran as it's called in Urdu. The entire recipe remains the same except for the addition of Saffron. It's best served chilled with loads of healthy Nuts. Traditionally these are served in Earthen pots as well as stored also. My Grandmother used to make in large quantities and filled in earthen pots on the night of 9th of Muharram so that it's super chilled by the time it's served on the next day. Such is the beauty of this amazing drink that's nutritious as well as delicious too.

Steps

25 minutes
  1. 1

Add Sugar to the full fat Milk and bring to a rolling boil on a high heat at first. Now reduce the heat and allow to cook until a bit thick and done. Also don't forget to add Cardamom powder and Saffron strands.

  2. 2

Mix well and let it cool down. Now comes the interesting part of giving it a smoky flavour of Agarwood or Oud. This actually gives it an aromatic flavour to the drink which is the speciality of it.

  3. 3

Heat a piece of Charcoal. Coarsely powder the Agarwood and place it on the burning Charcoal. As soon as you do that, smoke starts emanating. Place an Earthen pot or any vessel on it making the mouth of the pot or vessel come in contact with the smoke. Keep it undisturbed as such for about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

After the stipulated time, remove it and pour the boiled and cooled Milk into it and cover. Add all the favourite nuts of your choice. I have added only Almonds and Cashewnuts. Serve it chilled in Clay Kullads. Enjoy!

Homemaker by choice and a passionate cook by heart. An aspiring cook who actually never knew anything about Cooking until i became a mother myself. With Motherhood came the responsibilities as well and this was the turning point in my life.I started to learn the ABC's of cooking, taking help from my mother and my MIL. And time just flew. I spread my wings higher and higher. With my love for excellence and innovation, i stepped into a world of homecooks with my exposure to Cookpad one fine day on the social media. And there was no looking back since then and i have not only shared recipes here on this wonderful platform but also have made some lovely friends as well. Today iam successful because of my hard work, dedication and loads of good wishes of my family and my kids in particular.
