Take 2 cup rice. rinse the rice, drain and keep it aside. Cover it and soak for 4-5 hour.

In a separate bowl take 1/2 cup udad dal. rinse it and soak for 4-5 hour.

In a grinder jar, add the udad dal and add 1/4 cup water and grind it. Now drain the rice and grind it.

Mix both the batter. add 1 tspoon salt. cover the batter and keep it in a warm place. keep it for 8-12 hours to ferment.

The batter will ferment and increase in size. Now for making idli, take idli steamer. Add 2-3 cup of water and heat the water. keep the idli in the mould. and steam for 15-20 minutes. then remove the idli from the mould. and serve it with sambhar.
