Anything ammumma related( grandmother in Malayalam)" can make Lakshmi go weak by the Knees.While growing up everything she liked, invariably forged deep connections. Be it her love for Dev Anand(Actor),Tennis, Mary Higgins Clark( Novelist) to name a few. Though I would not call her the"best of
cooks" (as we always had a reliable Didi who was excellent with cooking), she was exceptional with sweets and snacks.
I do not recall a single day in my childhood that went without a homemade snack and one of my most favourite sweet snacks that she made apart from Badusha was Sughiyan and those were her favorites too. It is a very popular tea time snacks that is lapped up by all and sundry and it is one of my favourites too.

Soak 1 cup of green gram over night in water and pressure cook the same with enough water. Dont let the green gram get over cooked(2 whistles in med to high flame would do).

1 Cup of jaggery to be melted with 1/2 cup of water.Strain the mix. Cook the Jaggery syrup again and add 3/4-1 cup of grated coconut and 2-3 crushed cardamom to the mix.As the grated coconut gets coated,Add the cooked green grams (devoid of water).Give it a good mix. Make round balls( If the batter is sticky and hard to
shape up, refrigerate for 1-2 hours before making, add some atta/ maida to it - 3
Dip the same in a batter(without any lumps) made of 1 cup Maida,2 tablespoons of Rava with enough water.Fry them in oil.
