Preheat oven to 180c.

Dust a cookie sheet or a big flat tray with some plain flour.

In a large bowl mix all the dry ingredients together well. Then pour in the buttermilk (Note the milk and 1 tbsp of lemon juice is a buttermilk substitute).

Stir to combine the mixture together. Continue to stir until it has formed a dough. Using your hands form into a ball.

Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or tray and cut a deep cross in the middle (this helps the middle of the bread to cook thoroughly).

The bread can be dusted with plain flour and then placed in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until cooked through.

Serve warm or cold.
