Easy Crispy and Chewy Potato Starch Donuts

No eggs, no milk, no butter or margarine either! Even so, I want to eat a delicious treat! I want to eat donuts, so I made this.

I wanted to be as clean as possible while making the balls, so I used a rubber spatula to mix, a big spoon to make the balls, and dropped them into the oil, thus keeping the amount of dishes to a minimum! If you want to make them even fluffier, increase the water to 100 ml, but it will become runny and hard to spoon out. Recipe by Satsuki519.

Steps

  1. 1

Put a mixing bowl on a kitchen scale and weigh the dry ingredients as you add them (add an ingredient, reset the scale, repeat) one at a time. Mix together with a rubber spatula.

  2. 2

Add the water and mix together, scraping the bottom of the bowl until you get an even consistency. Put about 4 cm of oil in a frying pan or small pot and heat on medium heat.

  3. 3

Drop a pinch of the dough into the oil. If it floats to the surface, then it's hot enough. Drop the dough in rounded tablespoons one at a time into the oil to fry.

  4. 4

Use cooking chopsticks to push the donuts into the oil in order to fry all sides until golden brown (over medium-low to medium heat). They're easy to cook through, so they will quickly finish frying. Be careful not to over-fry!

  5. 5

Drain and enjoy! They're delicious plain, but if you like, coat with granulated sugar, powdered sugar, cinnamon, kinako, etc for a fashionable treat!

I recommend this variation! This is a banana-stuffed version at https://cookpad.wasmer.app/en/recipes/145180-crispy-soft-banana-katakuriko-donuts. The bananas are so soft and delicious!
