Strapatsada (Greek Eggs with Tomatoes)

Eggs are almost synonymous with breakfast. We cook them in a variety of ways, but having them in a Strapatsada brings back vivid memories of a summer breakfast under the Greek sun. Such a delicious and easy to make recipe that often makes it even on our dinner table as a side dish. 🤩

Greek Style Scrambled Eggs & Tomatoes (Strapatso me giaourti) Greek Style Scrambled Eggs & Tomatoes (Strapatso me giaourti)
This traditional Greek recipe has been around for ages and ages, and I have been making this for as long as I can remember, but I only knew the main ingredients this recipe called for. So, a couple of weeks ago I was watching another cooking show and it seems that they have added a new ingredient, Yogurt. I thought to myself what a delicious idea adding yogurt it will absolutely give it a bit of a twist, and so I bookmarked the recipe to make at a later date.I headed into the kitchen this morning, and had to see for myself if the taste is as good with the yogurt. I almost always have yogurt in the refrigerator, eggs, tomatoes, hmmm had all the necessary ingredients and was ready to get started on the recipe. When it was done I was so curious about the taste, so I took a fork, dipped into it and oh myyyyy, it is absolutely scrumptious. 🙂I hope you enjoy this delightful, tasty, morning, brunch, lunch and even dinner recipe because I surely did. 🙂 Foodzesty -
Traditional Cretan Barley Dakos with Feta Cheese and Tomatoes Traditional Cretan Barley Dakos with Feta Cheese and Tomatoes
This is such a lovely appetizer to make whenever your hungry for something light. It is one of the easiest snacks to make, when you return home from work and not really in the mood to cook, or just having a bit of relaxing time. This also goes along nicely with a cup of hot soup. 🙂The Greek Dakos/Rusk are quite hard, so to help them soften up before eating, there are two options either drizzle with water or olive oil. My Uncle Nick, use to eat these quite often, and I remember he used to always add water on the rusks to soak through before he added any toppings. I prefer this little trick for this recipe, dice the tomatoes into small pieces and let sit for a while on the rusk, so that it soaks in all the juices from the tomatoes. 🙂 Foodzesty -
Traditional Greek Salad (Choriatiki Salata) Traditional Greek Salad (Choriatiki Salata)
Hi everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend :) A brand new week ahead of us and I am hoping that it is a good one for everyone. I am back with a salad again today, and this one I know that everyone knows and has tried :) the Traditional Greek Salad, or otherwise known in Greece as "Choriatiki Salata" which translated into English means "Country Salad" or "Village Salad"This reminds of a story, my Dad had a really great sense of humour sometimes his jokes were just to funny that my stomach would hurt from laughing so much, but sometimes he would say things that were just so nonchalant...This is really funny but you need to understand Greek to be able to understand. We had gone to a Greek Tavern in Chasia which is an area in Athens that mainly has Greek Taverns. :) We were just about to order the appetisers when my dad turned around in a very nonchalant way and asked the waiter if they had "Vlaxiki salata" instead of saying "Choriatiki salata". We had never heard this salad referred to as Vlaxiki Salad, we had a good laugh and so did the waiter!! :)The truth is that back in those days the Villagers would grow there own tomatoes, cucumbers, so when working in the fields they would have a Tomato, Cucumber a few olives on a napkin to eat. So the term Vlaxiki Salata comes from how they used to eat, as years followed the named changed to Greek Salad, or Choriatiki. :) My mom grew up in a village so she told me that back then this is what my grandfather use Foodzesty -

Colorful Carrot Salad with Lemon Dressing Colorful Carrot Salad with Lemon Dressing
Hello!!! Did everyone have a good weekend? I hope so and I do hope that all is well…We had a very nice weekend it was the first one that we went out in a long long long time, we went and visited some friends who have moved to Germany from Greece. Our friend actually is a base player in a group and they were having a live concert on Saturday night so this gave us the opportunity to hear him live again!! I think its been 10 years since the last time I have been to a live concert. Germany had wonderful weather this weekend, Saturday night was just lovely, warm, stars were out, people dancing, and having a great time. 🙂Sunday we were invited over to some other friends house for lunch, the food was delicious BBQ, 🙂 we got a chance to catch up on everything and well we just had a lovely time. 😉 Just a small shout out thanking Katerina and hubby so much for inviting us to their home and their wonderful hospitality. (Before I forget Charlie had a great time too!!!) 🙂Since food was way to much this weekend, today’s lunch is light and salad is the only option. I ate Carrot Salad for the first time at my mother-in-laws :)…I remember that she placed it on the table and I made some sort of facial expression because she caught it hahahahahahah…and she remarked..:) Don’t get me wrong I love my mother-in-law, I have been very lucky she is like a second mom to me, anyway because I love salad I was absolutely going to try it, and have been making it myself since then. 🙂 Foodzesty -
Chicken & Cabbage with Tomatoes Chicken & Cabbage with Tomatoes
I often make simmered chicken and vegetables in tomato sauce, but today I had a lot of cabbage leftover so I tried making a simple cabbage and chicken dish.If you prefer very soft cabbage, steam for a little bit longer before adding the tomatoes. If you don't have diced tomatoes, you can use canned whole tomatoes. Crush them as you add them in.Besides cabbage, you can use eggplant, zucchini, onion, bell peppers, etc. to make a wonderful dish. Recipe by JACK0904 cookpad.japan -

If the latter holds up we’ll eat this too until we can’t see it anymore 😄This dish is a worthy addition to the list though: Salty, rich in umami, crispy, and aromatic. Served with a buttered/oiled sourdough it’s a great breakfast. All quantities are estimated. Cook from the heart and taste often to make it your dish. Matmakesmeals -
