Sausage pasta bake

This is the South African version of the “Greek pastitsio”, much quicker, easier, cheesy and delish! I made it with ostrich & lamb wors (south african sausage) loved it! Sometimes you just have to play around a recipe and make it your own. Hope you try it.

This is the South African version of the “Greek pastitsio”, much quicker, easier, cheesy and delish! I made it with ostrich & lamb wors (south african sausage) loved it! Sometimes you just have to play around a recipe and make it your own. Hope you try it.

Wash and cut ingredients. Turn oven on grill (up side) on 200. This has to be done 20 min in advance so the grill and oven are hot enough.

In a pot on medium heat add short pasta, 2 ts of salt, drizzle a bit of olive oil and fill water to cover the past and cook for 10 min, mix often so it doesn’t get stuck. Once ready drain and keep aside.

In a pan on medium high heat, add onions, garlic and olive oil cook until soft, then add wors/sausage and cook for 10 min mixing often

Then add fresh tomato, thyme and tomato can, mix well and cook for 10 min, add alcohol spirit, chili flakes and mix a bit again.

In the meantime, add pasta in an oven dish, and mix in a bit of salt, pepper, the grated cheese, and feta too.

Once sausage tomato sauce is ready add in the dish and mix well. Now add 50 or 100 ml boiling water depending of how much you think it needs. We do this because we don’t want the food to get burned or too stuck

Add more grated cheese on top and place in the oven for 10 min on the first rack, so the top section can grill nicely. Do not cover with lid.

Check after 10 min, and if it looks like this, then enjoy otherwise cook for extra 5 min. Yum yum!
