Battered Fish Fillets
This is one of my family recipes, passed down from my grandmother.
Tip 1: Wash and disinfect the cilantro ahead of time.
Tip 2: Rinse the fish strips before using.
Steps
- 1
Gather all the ingredients. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add about 2 cups (about 500 ml) of oil and let it heat over low heat. In a bowl, add the flour.
- 2
Add the salt, onion powder, garlic powder, eggs, and beer (add the beer gradually). Mix with a whisk or fork until you get a smooth, thick batter with no lumps. Add the fish strips, coat them well in the batter, and refrigerate.
- 3
Clean the shrimp (see the tips section for step-by-step instructions). Bring a pot with 1 cup (about 240 ml) of water to a boil. Once boiling, cook the shrimp until they turn pink, then remove and place them in salted water at room temperature. Start frying the fish fillets.
- 4
Once golden on one side, flip them over. When both sides are fried, place them on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain excess oil. On a serving plate, arrange a couple of fried fillets.
- 5
Garnish with finely chopped onion and cilantro, add two or three shrimp, and serve with ketchup, hot sauce, and lime. Enjoy!
