Cook washed arhar Dal in 4 cups of water with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt for 1 whistle in a pressure cooker.

Heat ghee in a tadka pan, and add asafoetida, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. As popping starts add chopped onions, and sauté for 5 minutes. he

Add all spices and salt, stir and add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Saute till ghee comes out. Pour this masala over boiled Arhar Dal and let the dal cook for 8-10 minutes.

Garnish with chopped coriander.

For rice

Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, and add 2.5 cups of water

As the water is slightly warm add washed rice and a teaspoon of salt and close the lid.Cook for 1 whistle.

Serve the comforting arhar dal with rice and enjoy.
