This is a very special dessert recipe across India..And a very traditional maharashtran sweet dish.Ukadiche modak is known to be the most favorite of lord ganesha and it is prepared during the auspicious occasion of ganesh chaturthi in temples and homes. The taste is soo authentic and delicious 😋
Steps
- 1
To make this delicious Ukadiche modak I have combined two recipes together.. one for the dough and the other is for the stuffing.
- 2
Let's start by making the dough..simply take a oval pan..add water according to the ratio mentioned above..let it be just warm..now add the rice flour and keep stirring at the same time..It will start to thicken as soon as you will put the rice flour into the water..keep mixing until it takes a dough like texture..it will hardly take 2 to 3 minutes..Now remove to a container and let it cool down for 2 minutes..then knead it well using hands..
- 3
Add 1 table spoon more melted ghee for an even more smooth kneading..just like this
- 4
Keep this aside..In the mean time make the stuffing..Take a pan..let it be hot..add butter, then add the sesame seeds into it..roast for just 1 minute in low flame..then add the grated coconut and jaggery..add just 1/2 cup water for the jaggery to melt easily..keep mixing until it becomes a moist stuffing..then add the chopped cashews and mix well..let it be cool down a bit.
- 5
Make 2 inches balls out of the rice flour dough..give it a shape as mini bowls to fill the stuffing in between..Put one table spoon stuffing in each bowls
- 6
Now fold the edges by bringing it to the top to give it a temple like shape..Then give gentle creases by using the backside of a knife or spoon..this is a very unique trick to make these dumplings look so perfect and beautiful in shape..
- 7
Now steam all the dumplings using in a steamer.you can use a idli or dhokla steamer easily by greasing the molds a bit with melted ghee..steam for 7 to 8 minutes at least for a perfectly steamed modak..and this amezing and authentic delicacy is ready.
