Ingredients

20 minutes
2 people
  • 3/4 cupoats
  • 1/4 cupsemolina or suji or rava
  • 2 1/2 cupswater
  • 2 tbspoil
  • 1 tspmustard seeds
  • 1 tspcumin seeds
  • Pinchasafoetida or hing
  • 1 tbspurad dal
  • 3 tbspcashew pieces (optional)
  • 1green chili finely chopped
  • 1 tspturmeric powder
  • 1 tspred chili powder
  • 1onion finely chopped
  • 1tomato finely chopped
  • 1/4 cupchopped green capsicum
  • As Per TasteSalt
  • Pinchsugar
  • 2 tbsplemon juice
  • As RequiredCorriender for garnishing
  • 5-6curry leaves

Steps

20 minutes
  1. 1

    Roast oats in a pan for 3 to 4 minutes. Remove it. Keep it on a plate.

  2. 2

    In the same pan heat oil. After hearing oil, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, green chili, asafoetida, curry leaves, and cashews. Saute for 1 to 2 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add onion. Cook for 2 minutes. Add capsicum. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes. The onion becomes golden yellow.

  4. 4

    Add tomatoes. Cook for 2 minutes. Add turmeric powder and red chili powder. Mix it.

  5. 5

    Add water. Boil it. Add salt, sugar, and lemon juice. Then add oats and semolina. Stir continuously. It will become thick. Cover the lid and cook for 3 to 4 minutes.

  6. 6

    Garnish with fresh, green coriander. Serve hot and relish healthy upma.

  7. 7

    I added vegetables which are available at that time. You may add green peas, carrots, french beans, etc as per your choice.
